Travel & Stay

To find cheap flights from the UK to Jamaica in March and April, it's important to act strategically. These months are considered part of the "shoulder season," offering a sweet spot between the expensive peak winter months and the start of the summer rush. For the best prices, aim to book your flight between 45 and 60 days in advance of your travel date. Consider a flight with a layover, as indirect routes are often significantly cheaper than direct ones. Using flight comparison websites like Skyscanner is crucial for finding the best deals across various airlines. Flying into Montego Bay (MBJ) is typically more affordable than Kingston (KIN) however it depends on your dates and departure point. By being flexible with your travel dates and willing to make a stop, you can secure a more budget-friendly fare for your trip. Both airports are similar distances from the wedding venue so we recommend choosing the cheapest option.

For getting around Jamaica comfortably, tourists have several reliable options. The safest choices often include pre-arranged private transfers and tours, which offer professional, vetted drivers and air-conditioned comfort. For cross-country travel, the Knutsford Express is a popular, affordable and comfortable pre-booked coach service. For local travel, licensed charter taxis or those specifically authorised by the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA) are recommended. These are typically identifiable by red license plates with "PP" and/or a green JUTA sticker. It is always wise to confirm the fare with the driver before beginning the journey. Avoid unmarked taxis and exercise caution when using route taxis, especially at night.

Confident drivers can rent a car for the easiest and most care-free way of exploring the island. Jamaica uses the left hand side of the road, and there are now major toll roads connecting most of the island. However, to reach the wedding venue there are smaller pot-holed roads to cross so ensure you are prepared for tight bends and unexpected turns.

Getting Around

The wedding venue is in Santa Cruz, parish of St. Elizabeth. St. Elizabeth, affectionately known as the "Breadbasket of Jamaica" for its prolific agriculture, offers a rich and authentic experience on the island's southwest coast, characterised by a more laid-back pace than the major tourist hubs. The parish is a haven for eco-tourism, featuring the multi-tiered waterfalls of YS Falls, the legendary cliff of Lover's Leap, and the fascinating wildlife cruises along the Black River Safari, where visitors can spot crocodiles in their natural habitat. Its south coast is home to the bohemian fishing village collective known as Treasure Beach, which boasts a community-based tourism model, and a short boat ride away is the iconic, stilt-supported Floyd's Pelican Bar built on a sandbar in the sea. This unique blend of rugged inland beauty, traditional farming, and untouched coastline makes St. Elizabeth a compelling destination for travellers seeking a genuine slice of Jamaican life.
